Special Police Officers

The Bellmawr Police Department currently has Class II Special Police Officers.  These officers have as much authority as our regular patrol officers, the difference is that they do not work in a full-time capacity.  All of the Special Officers already have full-time jobs, and either chose to be a police officer in their spare time, or they are trying to get hired as a police officer.  People who are trying to become full-time officers learn a lot as a special officer, and also have an opportunity to show the administration their skills, and their work ethic.

Special officers supplement the Patrol Officers.  On weekends they may come in to provide an additional patrol unit for Bellmawr.  Special Officers are often assigned to Municipal Court and Borough events such as the Mischief Week,  Christmas in the Park, The 4th of July Parade, and so forth.

Class II Special Officers carry firearms, and complete an extremely similar academy as the patrol officers.

Bellmawr Police Department also has Class I Special Officers.  Class I Officers do not carry firearms, and attend a shorter academy then Class II Officers.  The department looks to promote from within from Class I to Class II Officers.
