



In 2000, William P. Walsh was promoted to the rank of Chief. Since his appointment he has initiated many new programs that relate to enforcement, and community oriented policing as well.
Chief Walsh first began his employment as a Dispatcher in 1978, and soon after became a Special Police Officer. In 1982 he was appointed as a full-time patrol officer, promoted to Sergeant 1986, promoted to Captain in 1997 and Chief of Police in 2000. Chief Walsh attended numerous schools, seminars and management related courses including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy 161st Session, in Quantico, Virginia,
The Chief reinstated the K-9 unit, began the police explorer post, and obtained a new radar trailer for the traffic safety unit along with obtaining the latest digital fingerprint equipment that identifies suspects sometimes as quickly as 15 minutes. Chief Walsh is constantly applying for State and Federal Grants to better equip the department and the officers. These initiatives are a just a few of the new concepts being introduced in Bellmawr. The Chief is very involved in information technology and is a member of the Camden County Communication Center Advisory Board. He is also chairman of the Bellmawr Municipal Alliance and is a member of the Bellmawr Beautification Committee.
